Our Initiatives
Our organization has been involved in a number of projects in the Richmond area, and we continue to play a hand in various initiatives:
-
Environmental Documentary Screenings
At the height of the pandemic, we hosted virtual environmental documentary screenings followed by meaningful discussion.
-
Roadside Cleanups
We adopted a section of Quioccasin Road through the Virginia Department of Transportation in Henrico County and hold bi-annual, roadside cleanups.
-
Civic Engagement Night & Mock Trial
We collaborated with the Virginia League of Conservation Voters to host a civic engagement night and a mock trial (with Delegate Schuylar VanValkenburg), intended to demonstrate the importance of the judicial branch in climate action/environmental protection.
-
Environmental Justice Documentary
We created a documentary on environmental racism/justice with another youth-led organization, Outspoken Narrative. We started the process by learning more about the topic, helping conduct air quality collection with the Science Museum of Virginia in Windsor Farms, an affluent neighborhood, and then in Jackson Ward, a historical underserved community densely populated by people of color. The film received Honorable Mention at the Richmond Environmental Film Festival.
-
Environmental Enrichment Classes
We organized summer classes for elementary school-aged children through Project Engage, an organization run out of Freeman High School.
-
Plastic Bag Donation
We donated hundreds of plastic bags to the Outer Banks Women’s Club to contribute to their initiative to create a sustainable bench out of material that, otherwise, would have been discarded.
-
VAIPL Interview
GreenTeenz RVA co-founders, Camille, Kristina, and Maia chatted with Leah Jones, host of Environmental Justice Now!. Their conversation focuses on GreenTeenz’s initiatives, consequences of the climate crisis, and the importance of youth activism.
