“I've always had a deep appreciation for the outdoor spaces around me. On a small scale, just exploring my backyard and local parks as a kid, and then having the opportunity to explore some of the beautiful environments around the world. When I entered high school, I became more aware of the environmental threats the climate crisis posed, and the impacts of detrimental anthropogenic activities in my own city. The documentary, "50 Minutes to Save the World," and finding fellow teens who shared an interest in advocacy and positive action, solidified my desire to invest in forming GreenTeenz RVA. I have loved being able to connect with people and learn from different community members, and have also loved being able to form amazing friendships with fellow board members.”

“Growing up in a time of political unrest, I’ve always felt a sense of frustration and hopelessness; it is disheartening to see politicians and other figures of authority idly sitting around as our planet slowly deteriorates. Being under the age of 18 at the time and unable to vote, I felt the need to create change in our community; together, with Camille and Maia, I created Greenteenz RVA after being inspired by watching a documentary titled “50 Minutes to Save the World.” From there, what started off as simple Instagram posts to raise awareness, snowballed into regular cleanups and other community events. My favorite part about Greenteenz is getting to build community while being able to see the fruits of our labor; I’ve loved being able to meet like-minded yet diverse peers, loving community members, and even legislators, and I’ve loved seeing our visions come to fruition as film scripts turn into documentaries, and hopes for donation turn into care packages. Every moment with this organization has been meaningful to me.”

“Kristina, Maia, and I were inspired to found GreenTeenz after watching the short documentary called “50 Minutes to Save the World,” which inspired us to start spreading its message. We started GreenTeenz as an Instagram page to share our travel experiences as well as educate people on environmental issues, and the organization expanded from there. I wanted to be a part of GreenTeenz to be involved first-hand with projects and create real change, as I believe youth activism is so important. Although I couldn’t vote at the time of founding, I knew I could still make an impact through this organization. My most favorite part of GreenTeenz has been meeting so many passionate individuals who all care about the planet, and engaging with other organizations such as ours has been so fulfilling and exciting, as we can start to see the impact we are having.”
